VLIW processors have emerged as the mainstay of digital signal processing
and high performance embedded computing. DSP processors such as the
Texas Instruments TMS320C6000 and Analog Devices SHARC as well as
media processors such as the Philips Trimedia use VLIW technology.
This article is a survey of key VLIW concepts and history. One version
